Bona Mix & Fill is a non-toxic water-based timber floor filler that guarantees a good colour match every time. Bona Mix & Fill is combined with fine sanding dust from the floor and is perfect for filling parquetry floors or gaps between floor boards of up to 2 mm. Bona Mix & Fill dries in as little as 20 minutes and excess filler is easy to remove during the final rotary sanding of the timber.

Bona Mix&Fill can also be used on oiled floors. With coloured oil or
stained floors, a trial should be carried out so as to assess the final colour
achieved.

Ensure the floor is acclimatized to its end-use environment, dry and free
from wax, dirt and other contamination. Sand the floor to bare wood and
to grit 60 – 80 (before making the final cut). The temperature of the room
and the product must not fall below +13 C during application and drying.

  1. Shake the bottle thoroughly before use. The separation of the
product into liquid and solids fractions is normal and they can be
restored to a homogenous liquid by shaking.
  2. Determine the amount of product required and mix with fine clean
sanding dust, ideally taken from edge sanding, to a smooth
    consistency, similar to thick cream.
    An approximate mix ratio is 10 – 15% sanding dust to 85 – 90%
product. The mixed product should ideally hold to the edge of
the trowel for a brief moment before sliding from the surface
  3. Apply the mixture across the whole floor using a stainless steel
trowel. Wide and / or deep gaps may need to be treated several
    times.
  4. On very dry floors it is beneficial to apply a fine mist spray of
clean water on to the floor to be filled directly before filling takes
place. This ensures the Mix&Fill does not dry out prematurely
and become more difficult to use. Do not soak the floor as
excess water will affect the performance of the mixed product.
  5. Gaps within plank or end-grain floors are normally not filled. Dry
filler could partially break loose as shrinkage/expansion occurs.
Mix&Fill is not suitable for joints larger than 2 mm or in places
where it is unsupported by wood beneath it. It is not suitable
    therefore for butt edged floors.
  6. When the surface is dry, sand off all excess Mix&Fill using grit
100-120. Finish with a screen grit 120-150 if required. Note:
gaps of 2 mm wide / deep may require overnight to dry.
  7. The floor may be coated with any Bona coating system.
Bona Mix&Fill is designed to be used on timbers that are broadly a single
colour / tone. If used on timbers with a wide range of colours the
minimisation of the filler’s appearance is significantly reduced.
Certain wood species (mostly tropical) including Merbau / Kwila and
chemically treated wood can trigger unforeseen reactions. This is usually
characterised by the mixing process resulting in a lumpy uneven mixture
rather than smooth paste or a much lighter colour than the timber species
once the mixed filler has dried. If in doubt, conduct a test to ensure
satisfactory function and colour authenticity before use.
Bona Mix&Fill is not designed to be used on any other surface than
unfinished bare wood. It should not be used over a primer coat
application. If it is used to fill ‘missed’ holes on a floor noted after finish
application then the area around the hole should be carefully taped so as
to ensure that no residues of the mixed product can remain on the
surface of the coated floor. Residues of Mix&Fill on a coated surface
appear as a light coloured ‘cl
